Trauma bandages can be divided into many types according to different usage scenarios and needs.
Basic types of trauma bandages:
Pressure bandage: This is a bandage suitable for wounds that need to be pressured. For example, in some cases where there is a lot of bleeding due to cuts and scratches, the pressure bandage can effectively control bleeding by applying a certain amount of pressure to the wound. The principle is to compress the blood vessels at the wound and reduce blood outflow. In some surgical wounds, if there is a risk of bleeding, pressure bandages may also be used.
Fixation bandage: Mainly used to fix fractures, sprains and other wounds. When a fracture occurs in a part of the body, such as an arm fracture, the fixation bandage can stabilize the fracture site and avoid displacement of the fracture ends, thereby reducing further damage to surrounding tissues (such as blood vessels, nerves, etc.). In the case of sprains, such as ankle sprains, fixation bandages can limit the movement of the injured joint, help relieve pain and swelling, and promote tissue repair.
Hemostatic bandage: Designed for wounds that need to stop bleeding quickly. In some emergency situations, such as arterial rupture and bleeding, hemostatic bandages can quickly stop bleeding. This bandage may be made of special materials or designs, which can coagulate blood in a short time or stop a wound with heavy bleeding through strong pressure.
Cotton gauze bandage: mainly used for bandaging and fixation of external wounds after dressing in hospital surgery and home. It has good air permeability and water absorption, can absorb liquid exuded from the wound, keep the wound relatively dry, and is conducive to wound healing. At the same time, the cotton material is relatively soft and less irritating to the wound.
Elastic bandage: mainly used for retention bandages for patients with varicose veins of the lower limbs, orthopedics, etc. It can improve blood circulation and prevent limb swelling. For example, for patients with varicose veins of the lower limbs, the moderate pressure of the elastic bandage can help promote venous blood return to the heart and reduce the pressure on the veins of the lower limbs. In orthopedics, it can replace the multi-head abdominal bandage after surgery and is used for pressure bandages or general trauma bandages on different parts of the human body.
