On July 31, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said after talks with Croatian Foreign and European Affairs Minister Grlic Radman, Ukraine and Croatia have agreed on the use by Ukraine of Croatian ports on the Danube and Adriatic Sea for the export of Ukrainian grain.

"At the moment, we will make full use of this opportunity to try to build the most efficient route to Croatian ports," Kureba said after meeting Rudman in the Ukrainian capital Kiev, Reuters reported on July 31. He also said that any effort to facilitate Ukraine's food exports is a practical and effective contribution to world food security.

The Black Sea Cereals Initiative was brokered by the United Nations and Turkey in July 2022. The initiative allowed Ukraine to continue exporting agricultural products during the Russia-Ukraine conflict and played a crucial role in stabilizing global food prices. Following Russia's withdrawal from the Black Sea Grains Initiative in July 2023, Ukraine lost an important channel to safely export agricultural products, and global wheat prices rose sharply.

At present, Ukraine's food exports mainly rely on the "Solidarity corridor" created by the EU and alternative export routes via the Danube River. Earlier in July 2023, Russia attacked Ukrainian infrastructure along the Danube route.

It is worth noting that during this meeting, the Ukrainian and Croatian sides also discussed Croatia's military assistance to Kiev and Croatia's role in the implementation of the peace program in Ukraine. Cureba did not give further details, saying: "We will implement some agreements soon."
