Sunak was initially inspired by New Zealand. New Zealand passed a "generational Smoking ban" in December 2022, banning the sale of tobacco to people born on or after January 1, 2009, requiring the reduction of nicotine content in tobacco products and the reduction of the number of tobacco retailers.
