Israeli National Security Minister Ben Gewel is escorted by police to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem's Old City, known as the Haram al-Sharif. It was the second time this year that he had entered the disputed area, prompting renewed Palestinian condemnation.

In a statement issued early in the morning, Ben-Geweir said, I entered the Temple Mount because the threats of Hamas (the Palestinian Islamic resistance movement) could not stop us.

According to Israeli media reports, thousands of Jews marched into the Temple Mount area on the 18th "Jerusalem Day", including several far-right members of the current Knesset, but Ben-Gevel did not join.

Palestinian official news agency "Wa fa" 21, citing a statement issued by the Palestinian presidential palace spokesman Rudeinai, said the Palestinian side condemned Ben-Gewel this blatant provocation, said "playing with fire" will only cause serious consequences, the Palestinian side will continue to pay close attention to.

As the leader of the far-right Jewish Power party, Ben-Gewehr has repeatedly entered the Temple Mount as a member of parliament. On January 3rd he entered the disputed territory for the first time as head of the government's newly created Ministry of State Security.

The Temple Mount in Jerusalem's Old City, sacred to both Judaism and Islam, has long been a focal point of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Israel seized control of Jerusalem's Old City from Jordan in the 1967 Third Middle East War. Under an agreement between Israel and the United States, the Temple Mount remains under Jordanian jurisdiction and security is controlled by Israeli police.
