On September 29 local time, the United Nations Security Council issued a statement strongly condemning the suicide terrorist attack in Pakistan on the same day. The members of the Council expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and the Government of Pakistan, and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
The statement reaffirms that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations is one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.
The members of the Council stressed the need to hold accountable the perpetrators, organizers, financiers and supporters of these reprehensible acts of terrorism and to bring them to justice. They urged all States to cooperate actively with the Government of Pakistan and all other relevant authorities in this regard, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions.
The statement also reiterated that any terrorist act is a criminal act, regardless of its motivation, whenever, wherever and by whomsoever committed, and is an indefensible criminal act. All States need to use all means to combat threats to international peace and security, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and other obligations under international law, including international human rights law, international refugee law and international humanitarian law.
